Jax: Well, you, you played it brilliantly, Skye. I mean, I consider myself a man of experience, but I never saw this coming.
Skye: Grandfather set me up. I, I was hurt. I was angry.
Jax: Your facade was perfect.
Skye: Jax, I thought you were with another woman. I couldn't stand it.
Jax: Don't play the wounded little girl with me, Skye! I've heard it too many times, that you had a bad childhood, that you're unable to trust, that you don't really know what real love is. When I, when I fell in love with you, I wanted to change your life. I wanted to make up for all the hurts and betrayals you'd suffered.
Skye: You did. You did, Jax.
Jax: Well, I suffered, too, you know? I lost someone that I cared about deeply. And I shut myself off for years and I swore that I wouldn't open up again until I found you.
Skye: I know you put your faith in me, and that meant everything to me.
Jax: Oh, God, stop lying!
Skye: No, Jax, I love you. I do. I have never stopped. I swear it. You got to believe me.
Jax: Well, that's too bad because I never want to see you again. You know, let's just make this quick and clean. I'm going to go.
[he starts to walk away but Skye stops him]
Skye: No, Jax, I will not let you cut me off.
Jax: You had a great plan, Skye, but it backfired, ok?
Skye: No, I didn't want it to work. That's why I went to Edward and I begged him to rip up...
Jax: You signed the papers! Your intentions were there in black and white.
Skye: You lied to me about going to Paris, and then Edward had that photograph. What was I supposed to think?
Jax: You assume the worst. I can't live like that, Skye, not knowing if you're going to jump at the wrong conclusions and then seek revenge.
Skye: I've changed.
Jax: You could've told me about that contract for how long? Instead, you go sneaking around behind my back, trying to snatch up copies like some madwoman.
Skye: No, I was afraid that if I showed it to you that you'd shut me out, just like you're doing right now.
Jax: You know, people told me what you were like. I didn't believe them. I, I was certain that I knew the real you deep down, you know? But I guess there is no deep down.
Skye: No, Jax, you, you do know me. You know me, you know me better than anyone ever has.
Jax: You're a manipulator, Skye.
Skye: No, no, not anymore.
Jax: I fell in love with the woman I wanted you to be, not the woman you are.
Skye: You stop pretending that you don't care.
Jax: I'm not pretending. That's your game.
Skye: Then you be honest with yourself. You said you want to spend the rest of your life with me. You just can't shut your feelings off just like that.
Jax: I know when to cut my losses.
Skye: No, you don't get to walk away, damn it! Look, I was tricked into turning against you. And maybe I took it too far, but, hey, you know me. I never take anything halfway. I do it all the way, and that's one of the things you love best about me.
Jax: No, "loved," Skye, past tense. It's over.
Skye: Stop trying to convince yourself! I know the truth. I know that there is a bond between us that is much too strong to be broken.
Jax: I should've followed my instincts.
Skye: But you did, Jax! You followed your instincts, ok? You didn't want to fall in love again, but you did. God knows I didn't, but it happened. And we found love and happiness and a chance to start over again. Now, you know that. That is something worth fighting for, Jax, so fight for it, damn it!
Skye: Fight for me! [she hits his chest] Fight for me! Fight for our love! Fight for it, damn it!
Jax: You're so beautiful when you cry. [he wipes away a tear] I almost believe you mean it.
Skye: I do.
Jax: I've just seen it too many times.
Skye: Jax, please. Tell me, what can I do? How, how can I prove my love to you?
Jax: It's too late, Skye.
Skye: No, it is not too late. We can get back to what we had in the beginning.
Jax: What we had was sex and business. Is that what you really want?
Skye: Maybe, yes, that's how it started, but it changed. We, we changed.
Jax: No, no, neither one of us changed.
Skye: No, that is not true. You, you taught me what real love is, and that is why I didn't want to go through with Grandfather's scheme.
Jax: You can't stop lying, can you?!
Skye: No, Jax, look at me. You know me. You know my heart.
Jax: Not only did you lie to my face, you jeopardized my entire family. You tried to destroy what they worked hard for.
Skye: No, I, I wouldn't do that to you.
Jax: Roy stole that oil map, but Edward wanted you to take it, didn't he? That's why he kept calling the house when I had the map, right? That's why you kept looking over my shoulder every time I opened the safe. You couldn't wait to get your hands on that, could you?
Skye: No, Grandfather wanted me to get it for him, but I didn't.
Jax: Did you try?
Skye: I, I told Grandfather...
Jax: Did you try?!
Skye: Yes.
Jax: Do you have, do you have any idea what kind of damage that would've done to my family?
Skye: Jax, I wouldn't have let Grandfather do that to you. I would've found a way to tell you about it.
Jax: I don't want to hear it.
Skye: No, Jax...
Jax: I don't want to hear it.
Skye: Look I, I didn't want to show you that contract, ok, because I was afraid that, I was afraid you'd stop loving me.
Jax: It's always about you, isn't it, Skye?! It's always about Skye! Me, my entire family, we don't matter!
Skye: No, Jax, you matter. You do. That is why I told you about the contract. I swear I won't lie to you again. I swear it!
Jax: Well, you won't have a chance.
Skye: Jax, please, don't do this.
Jax: I don't want to see you. I don't want to hear from you. Ok? You're a mistake. You're a mistake I made. You can keep the necklace. [he leaves her]

[Skye makes her way to a bar]
Bartender: What'll you have? You want a drink or not?
Skye: I always want a drink. Martini, dry with a twist. Ooh, just makes my mouth water to think about it. You know what life is? One, long karmic joke. All those really great things you think you're going to get someday, well, you know what? You don't get them. No, they just kind of disappear right in front of your eyes. Today I, I started on high, ended at rock bottom. Grandfather would just love the symmetry of it all. Took everything away from me when I was born, and now he's taking it away from me again, the only person that I've ever really loved. [she fingers her necklace] "A mistake." He called me "a mistake." Sure would buy a lot of martinis, though. But I haven't had one in years.
Bartender: Are you sure you want this one?
[Skye starts to leave, but as she slides off the barstool her shoe breaks, she's finally had enough]
Skye: Oh, what the Hell. Here's to a mistake making a mistake. It all fits.
[she sets her necklace on the bar]
Skye: Keep them coming.

Ned: Skye told you?
Jax: I guess I have you to thank.
Ned: You needed to know, Jax. I couldn't let you marry her without finding out.
Jax: Yeah, well, the wedding's certainly off now, that's for sure.
Ned: Look, I'm not going to pretend that I'm a big fan of my cousin Skye, but I know what you two had.
Jax: What I thought we had.
Ned: You were going to spend the rest of your life with her, so you're certainly allowed to have second thoughts.
Jax: Look, I, I want to see the contract.
Ned: Are you sure?
Jax: Yeah. [reading] "I agree to take whatever steps are necessary to bring about the financial ruin of Jasper Jacks." No room for misinterpretation, is there?
Ned: I'm sorry, buddy.
Jax: Yeah, don't be. You did me a favor. And one good turn deserves another.
Ned: What's this?
Jax: I've consolidated all of my ELQ stock. I am offering you a chance to buy me out.
Ned: You're serious?
Jax: Well, you've always wanted full power of ELQ. Now's your chance.
Ned: Actually, there were plenty of times when I wanted absolutely nothing to do with Grandfather's business empire.
Jax: And that's because he was at the wheel.
Ned: Partly.
Jax: Come on, Ned. Don't tell me your sole purpose for showing me that contract was to fix my personal life.
Ned: No, you're right. It wasn't the only factor.
Jax: Because I intend to distance myself from your entire family, you and Lila excluded, of course.
Ned: Well, that's understandable.
Jax: So you'll take it?
Ned: Yes, I will.

[back at Edward's room, Skye is now very drunk]
Skye: I hate you, old man. Can you hear me? Are my words sinking into your brain? I hate everything that you are, everything you've ever done to me. Kept my parents apart with lies. Got rid of me, the dirty little secret. Sold me off to a baby broker. My adoptive parents treated me like some prized pony who didn't quite live up to their expectations. That's how I thought people were. You do one thing wrong, love just goes away. But maybe, maybe if you play your cards right it'll, it'll come back.
